Widget description
• Three ways to play – Choose the computer, two players at one screen, or a colleague signed in to the same Zabbix installation.
• Four computer levels – Stockfish offers Beginner, Advanced, Expert and Grandmaster. The engine and its assets are included in the package.
• Rules enforced on the server – Legal moves, check, castling, en passant, promotion and game results are validated before a move is saved.
• A clock when you want one – Play without a clock or give each side 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Remaining time and the game survive a page reload.
• Clear board controls – Use click, drag or keyboard controls, show legal-move hints and flip the board. Captured pieces and material advantage remain visible.
• Invitations with a reply – A Super admin can invite an enabled Zabbix user. The recipient may accept or decline; the sender is notified when the invitation is declined.
• Self-contained and HA ready – No external engine service, CDN, web font or AI-provider key is required at runtime. Frontends share game state through the Zabbix database.
• Full localization – 27 display-language catalogues cover current Zabbix languages and legacy Dutch and Romanian. Supported versions: Zabbix 6.0 – 7.4; PHP 7.4 minimum.
How it looks in practice
Tom and Jack play the same saved game in a wide or a tall dashboard tile. The board, player cards and controls adapt to the available space. Each avatar follows the color of that player’s pieces; the Points label shows a material lead, not another count of captured pieces.

Installation and distribution
chessMAX has one FREE edition. Install the zabbix-module-chessmax package from repo.initmax.com, using the guided instructions in the initMAX Portal. Native DEB/RPM packages select the appropriate module tree and register the module automatically; an explicitly disabled module stays disabled. Offline installation is available as a source ZIP. The widget is licensed under AGPLv3 and includes the GPLv3 Stockfish engine. The widget is completely free, with no subscription or AI-provider API charge.
FAQ
A running Zabbix installation – the supported Zabbix versions and the minimum PHP version are listed in the Requirements section of each product page. The widget installs on the Zabbix frontend server as a standard deb/rpm package from repo.initmax.com, so you need root access to that server. No special hardware is required.
