Proxmox VE Deployment and Management
Start with one server and build confidence in its day-to-day administration. The course connects Proxmox VE configuration with the checks an administrator needs after a change: guest availability, disk health, user access and usable backups.
It is designed for administrators deploying Proxmox for the first time, moving from another virtualization platform or bringing consistency to existing procedures. The aim is to understand why a setting fits the task and how to verify the result, not just follow a wizard.

Course content
Architecture and deployment preparation
Distinguish the roles of the host system, virtual machines and containers. Work through server preparation, installation and initial settings so that the configuration fits the intended workload, not merely the installer requirements.
In practice: Build a pre-installation checklist and verify that the node is ready for its first workload.
Node administration, updates and diagnostics
Explore the web interface, task history and command line. Assess configuration changes alongside their effect on running guests. Learn to distinguish a successfully completed task from a request that has simply been accepted.
In practice: Find the result of an administrative operation and identify where to investigate a failure.
Bridges, bonding, VLANs and SDN
Connect virtual network adapters to a bridge and the physical network. Understand the different purposes of VLANs, redundant interfaces and centrally defined virtual networks. Consider your own management access when making changes.
In practice: Design separate management and guest networks and check connectivity after a network change.
Local storage and capacity management
Compare file and block storage and their relationship to LVM-thin or ZFS. Distinguish provisioned virtual-disk space from physically consumed capacity. Evaluate snapshots and clones against the capabilities of the chosen backend.
In practice: Select storage for a virtual disk and identify the capacity measurements an administrator needs to monitor.
KVM virtual machines and their lifecycle
Create a virtual machine and choose CPU, memory, disk-controller and network-adapter settings. Understand VirtIO, the guest drivers it requires and the management of configuration changes during normal operation.
In practice: Prepare a VM and verify its connectivity, disk devices and available management operations.
LXC containers and isolation boundaries
Distinguish containers from full virtualization: LXC shares the host kernel. Explore templates, networking, mount points and resource limits. Understand user mapping in unprivileged containers and its implications for data access.
In practice: Choose a VM or container for a given requirement and check the resources assigned to it.
Moving from other hypervisors and physical servers
Break migration preparation into inventory, conversion, first boot and application checks. Address controllers, drivers, network configuration and a rollback plan. Booting an imported system is not the same as completing a migration.
In practice: Create a checklist for a test V2V or P2V conversion and its acceptance checks.
Backups, retention and verified restore
Connect backup jobs to retention policies and recovery requirements. Explore built-in backup options and integration with Proxmox Backup Server. Distinguish a snapshot, a backup and a restored application that actually works.
In practice: Restore a sample guest in an isolated environment and verify both its data and network identity.
Users, authentication realms and permissions
Separate user identity from permissions on individual objects. Explore roles, groups and resource pools, including the difference between interactive login and access used by automation.
In practice: Design administrator permissions limited to selected resources without sharing the root account.
Integrated firewall and safe access
Read rules in their datacenter, node and guest context. Understand traffic direction, default policies and reusable rule groups. Check that management access and required services remain available after every change.
In practice: Prepare rules for a sample service and verify both allowed and denied traffic.
Troubleshooting everyday operations
Connect information from tasks, networks, disks and guest systems. Form a testable hypothesis, carry out a focused check and record the result instead of making unrelated changes.
In practice: Investigate a sample incident and document the finding, verification performed and recommended next step.

Yes. Experience with another virtualization platform is a good starting point. The course focuses on Proxmox VE principles and administration, including differences that affect guest operation. Basic virtualization knowledge is expected; familiarity with IP addressing, gateways and server administration is recommended. It is not a complete introduction to Linux or networking.
The foundation course covers backup, restore and the connection between Proxmox VE and Backup Server. It is not a separate, comprehensive PBS administration course. Backup infrastructure design, capacity modelling and large-scale backup operations can be addressed as a separate engagement.
Choose a date in the registration form on the course page. For individual or team training, contact us with the number of participants, their experience and your preferred period. We will prepare a proposal and agree on the dates, teaching language and delivery format to suit your needs.
Failure exercises should not be performed on your production systems. Practical work is intended for safely checking procedures in an isolated training environment. Computer, connectivity and lab-access requirements will be provided for each scheduled course. Please do not send production credentials in advance.
The stated duration describes teaching time, not a fixed calendar schedule. Full-day or shorter blocks, breaks and the time zone will be specified for each scheduled course. Until the timetable is available, course duration alone is not enough to plan travel or book accommodation.
Training builds knowledge and provides practice. Assessment of your specific infrastructure, an implementation plan, downtime and responsibility for deployment are separate services. We can follow up with consulting, an environment review or a migration.
The training-environment version will be stated alongside each scheduled course. Explanations will distinguish general principles from version-specific behaviour. The version number is therefore not part of the course name or intended URL.
